Since the 15th century, the town of Menton, a small city located on the Italian border near Nice, has been growing lemon trees. At its peak, Menton exported millions of lemons to England, Russia and even America.
The culture of lemon trees is not as huge nowadays. Lemons from Menton are picked by hand and do not undergo any treatment after their harvest. They are celebrated every year during the Lemon Festival and in 2015, they obtained an IGP label that recognizes their specificity. From a lemon fruit to delicate Eau de Menton
Gastronomy was the first to be interested in lemons from Menton . It’s only in 1947, when a Parisian perfumer named Louis Berneux settled in the South of France that the destiny of this extraordinary lemons changed.
He then created the famous Eau de Menton.
At Bring France Home, we love l’Eau de Menton. Its fragrance is light and very refreshing. When they get in our shop, most of our customers tell us “it smells very good in there” and it’s a pleasure for us to reply:“Ah ah, it’s because we use Eau de Menton, do you want to try it?”.

Last summer, a naughty gentleman who called himself Marcos tried to “screw us” with a big order of Eau de Menton. Since we are not part of the year’s losers, we could anticipate what he was aiming at and we did not fall into his trap. We even had fun letting him think that he was successful.
To remember this, we now have a secret name for Eau de Menton, we call it Marcos water.
